It’s going to take a lot more money to meet UN energy goals
We need to start spending more money – a lot more money (roughly $400 billion annually) – in order to meet the United Nation’s goal of making clean electricity universally available by the year 2030. According to a study performed by the World Bank, that equates to doubling, or even tripling, most countries’ current spending on green technology.
Developing countries are not only struggling to play catch-up with the rest of the world, they’re struggling with population control. Approximately 1.2 billion people, almost as many as the entire population of India, continue to live without reliable access to electricity, while another 2.8 billion people rely on wood, agricultural waste, and biomass to perform simple chores, like heat their homes and cook their food. And those numbers keep growing by the minute!
If we fail to address energy poverty, our other efforts to create economic sustainability are likely to fall short, the study showed. "Access to energy is absolutely fundamental in the struggle against poverty," said Rachel Kyte, World Bank Vice President. "It’s energy that lights the lamp that lets you do your homework, that keeps the heat on in a hospital, that lights the small businesses where most people work. Without energy, there is no economic growth, there is no dynamism, and there is no opportunity."
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is tasked with meeting the UN's Sustainable Energy for All goals. World Bank President Jim Yong Kim is serving as co-chairman on his advisory board. Their goal is simple – figure out how to make clean, low-cost electricity available to every man, woman, and child on Earth. Ok – maybe not so simple.

Regionalization & the electric car: facts, or fictions?
The economic crisis has broken all of the rules developed countries play by on the global market. As a result, the world is undergoing a reverse process of globalization called “regionalization.” A United States intelligence agency recently identified regionalization as a potential threat to the country’s stronghold on global markets. (http://gt2030.com). The emergence of new financial and industrial centers in developing countries is expected to rattle the status quo.
“We do not expect global growth to be much higher this year than last,” said Christine Lagarde, Head of the International Monitory Fund, who voiced her concerns on the real economy. Although business and industry is flocking to the third world, the local population hasn’t benefited, financially or by any other means. “In far too many countries,” said Lagarde, “Improvements in financial markets have not translated into improvements in the real economy—and in the lives of people.” (Economic Club of New York, New York, April 10, 2013).
We can delay regionalization by embracing revolutionary breakthroughs in science and technology like high-quality renewable energy and low-cost cargo output to Low Earth Orbit. These kinds of breakthroughs not only excite the public and ignite the imaginations of millions, they also add real value to bubbles in banking and manufacturing markets.
Sadly, we simply do not have these miraculous new technologies available today. What we do have, however, is an abundance of ambition in the automotive industry. American car companies were hit especially hard by 2008’s economic collapse. Now they’re looking to revive the market and raise quotes again. How? By tantalizing the public with promises of eco-friendly, cost-efficient, high-capacity batteries. Every year there’s another dozen commercials for the latest innovation in hybrid technology, or a new electric car that promises you’ll only have to stop for gas once a month!
But, as the past several decades have demonstrated, these “innovations” weren’t ready for mass production. They were merely marketing ploys – a way of getting the public to trust the automakers again after a pattern of gross mismanagement in the years preceding the financial crisis. Electric vehicles will never gain market share with a limited battery range and limited infrastructure of charging stations in place.
The automotive market has become saturated with hybrid vehicles. All the while, car companies have shifted focus away from concept designs and the production of prototypes. Instead of thinking long-term about staying competitive on a global scale, they’ve settled for temporarily satisfying the public’s soft-spot for cross-overs.
Following the economic crisis, most of the top managers in the western auto industry faced a dilemma: they could either file for bankruptcy, or come up with a PR-trick claiming to have made another technological breakthrough. The latter would distract investors from their ineptitude while earning government subsidies at the same time. Not a bad alternative to bankruptcy.
After 2008, investors and regulators began to closely monitor and trace the potential for financial bubbles in the industry. Sounds easy, but in fact it’s quite a difficult task in a real economy. Outsourcing makes it challenging for private and corporate investors to accurately analyze and predict how technical components will pan out on the market.
So where does all of this leave the electric car? Should we expect to see another PR campaign on TV? Indeed, we’re being told of a possible breakthrough relating to the incorporation of an isotropic polycrystalline generators (SH-boxes), which convert electricity from environmental heat, into a line of zero-emission vehicles. NRGLab PTE Ltd., based out of Singapore, was the first to generate energy via polycrystals in an anisotropic media with a thermoelectric merit figure of 0.8 (ZT). The resulting electrical capacity exceeded that of thermoelectric converters based on carbon nanotubes (0.02 ZT).
Let’s hope this technological breakthrough will add some REAL value to the real economy for once.

Power blackouts crippling India
Last summer, over 700 million people were affected by sweeping power blackouts across India. Doctors in the middle of surgeries. College students in the middle of term papers. The blackouts became just another part of Indian culture. Over time, however, they could decidedly cripple the country’s economy.
Businesses purchased backup generators to address the problem, but these generators ran on fossil fuels like diesel, and ultimately contributed to rising pollution concerns. Hospitals began reporting an increased number of heart disease and asthma cases.
While all of this has been going on, 400 million people in India continue to live without regular access to power. The government has promoted energy efficient renovations as means of saving energy. More efficient windows, air conditioning, and motion sensor lighting use less electricity, save money, and reduce the frequency of blackouts.
The next step would be to introduce a clean alternative source of energy to the market. The SH-Box by NRGLab is the ideal generator. U.K.'s energy industry on the verge of collapse?
The United Kingdom’s energy industry risks collapse if the government isn’t able to come to terms with EDF Energy on the price-point for electricity from the planned £14 billion nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point.
According to Lord Hutton, chairmen of the Nuclear Industry Association, the strained negotiations could scare future investors away from other energy projects. "If a deal cannot be struck for new nuclear, can it be struck for offshore wind or carbon capture and storage?"
If negotiations do collapse, the future of EDF’s influence in Britain would be uncertain. Currently, EDF controls eight nuclear power plants, employs over 20,000 people and handles 5.7 million customer accounts across the U.K. But these existing plants are projected to stop generating electricity within the next ten years. What then?
Lord Hutton is meeting with senior executives of the French-owned EDF, as well as U.K.’s Energy secretary, Stephen Lovegrove, and Treasury minister, Lord Deighton. The negotiations center on a guaranteed price-point for electricity over the next 30 years – a price which the government plans to subsidize through an energy tax.
However, the two sides appear far apart on the operating costs for the power plant, and the return rate EDF is entitled to. Hutton estimates that roughly £3 billion could but cut from construction costs due to the previous design and development of U.K.’s other nuclear facilities. “Time is of the essence,” he stressed. “EDF Energy has spent £1 billion already and the project is at present costing the company £1 million a day.” (That’s over £100 million EDF’s spent since they missed their December deadline to get the deal done!)
Last week, CEO of EDF Henri Proglio was quoted as saying he expects the two sides to come to an agreement “within a month.” This after EDF missed their March deadline, too.
Critics of the deal with EDF say any agreement will enslave consumers for years to come, forcing them to pay billions of pounds to the French. They also cite recent progress in the natural gas industry as, potentially, a more affordable long-term solution.
Yet nuclear and natural gas are both CARBON-EMITTING sources of energy. If either becomes the predominant industry in the U.K., it will only be contributing to the spiraling effects of global warming.
“Left to its own devices, the market would not choose to invest in capital intensive low-carbon infrastructure,” said Hutton. “This would lead us to a precarious, high-carbon future increasingly dependent on imported gas. This would be absolutely the wrong direction for us to take and is why we must not lose sight of this in the current negotiations.”
He’s right. Just because we’ve relied on fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution doesn’t mean we should be forced to give-in to the unreasonable demands of greedy corporate executives. The free market should be exactly that – free. People should be free to choose their own energy providers. They should be fear-free to invest in innovative new technology.

Future Waterworld features new trade routes: no Kevin Costner
As the ice caps continue to melt, new trade routes through the arctic are expected to open by mid-Century, increasing trade between the United States and Asia. Sure, we may be forced to live in Waterworld, where pirates run amok in a Kevin Costner-less future, but hey -- at least the economy will see a boost.
For hundreds of millions of years, the Arctic has been an impenetrable sheath of ice, forcing seafarers to navigate around the obstacle through man-made canals. Currently, trade between the U.S. and Asia runs primarily through the Suez and Panama canals; but as the planet continues to warm, the Northwest passage could become the next most-viable trade route. Hear that, Canada? With your meteor defense system and this added economic leverage -- you're on the verge of becoming the next superpower.
According to a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Plus, man may soon be able to pass directly over the North Pole for the first time in Earth's history. Due to the albeido effect, where in which reflective light-colored ice is replaced by murky sun-absorbing water, the more the ice melts, the hotter the planet gets; becoming a viscous, downward spiral ending in the Apocalypse.
So, global warming is growing exponentially, and moderate energy policies aren't doing enough to address the seriousness of this fact. Last fall, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center recorded the level of Arctic ice at an historic low. Now, scientists are scrambling to try and predict the consequences of heightened sea levels.
According to Laurence Smith, a geography professor at the University of California-Los Angeles, "The (Arctic) distances are vast. The landscape is boggy and wet and covered with lakes. What you see is a shutdown of human access on land and an increase of human access in the ocean."
Ships capable of plowing through an estimated four-feet of ice will be able to make the 'over-the-globe' trip by 2050. This new route will save ships 30% of current travel times through the Northern Sea Route.
It's nice to try and paint a silver lining on global warming. I joke about Waterworld and amphibious adaptations, but really -- melting ice caps shouldn't be seen as a positive thing. Although offering temporary economic perks, new sea routes are but a glimpse of a bitter long-term reality. The water is rising. The question is, when will our ancestors have to build themselves houseboats?
Besides, there are other ways to boost the economy! Like investing in clean-energy. Developing new strategies through collaboration. We don't have to simply accept our dismal fate. We have the ability to change the world. It starts with slowing global warming by cutting down on fossil fuel consumption. And how can we do that without descending into chaos?

Big business addresses climate change?
Late last week, the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) gave their recommendations to President Obama regarding climate change. According to the BCSE, investing in green-energy will not only stimulate the tech industry, but could pull the entire economy out of the hole Americans currently find themselves in. Thank goodness for the sequester then, which, if left unresolved, will result in billions of federal spending cuts, leaving little to no room for green-energy investing. Hooray, for split Congresses.
In a letter from the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change to the National Association of Clean Air Agencies (NACAA) “the window to prevent catastrophic climate change is rapidly closing.” The Task Force requested suggestions on how federal agencies could cut down on their carbon emissions. In reply, the BCSE released a factbook entitled 'Sustainable Energy in America', in which they identified economic-based legislation as the “optimal policy.” They also recommended the following measures:
1. Allow existing power plants to achieve target emission rates.
2. Use an output-based approach to setting emissions standards for New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) of greenhouse gases.
3. The Department of Energy should implement efficiency measures, including appliance and equipment standards, manufactured housing efficiency standards, and previously announced programs for commercial buildings.
4.The federal government should follow through on commitments made in the White House Executive Order 13514, including making greater use of federal performance contracting, aggregating procurements within federal agencies, between federal agencies, and leveraged with state and local government procurements, and clarify that Combined Heat and Power (CHP) qualifies under this executive order.
5.Federal agencies should support efforts to strengthen the smart grid, especially distributed generation at disaster centers, hospitals, etc., and should implement and update climate change adaptation plans to improve resilience.
6.Congress should continue to support research, development and deployment of homegrown and clean energy sources.
These actions could significantly cut into America's carbon emissions, and would set a positive example for the rest of the world to follow. As previously quoted, “the window to prevent catastrophic climate change is rapidly closing.” We have passed the development period. It' time for implementation. It's time for change. It's time for the SH-box and other innovative green initiatives to finally get the recognition, and the funding, they deserve and need to save the world.

Forward on Climate Rally -- Feb. 17th
On Februrary 17th, the Forward on Climate Rally will be held in Washington D.C. People are expected to gather to urge President Obama to address climate change; a promise he made during his inaugural speech when he first took office five years ago. The rally is being organized by the Sierra Club, 350.org, the Hip Hop Caucus and a few dedicated environmentalists.
The Rally’s message focuses on minimizing the environmental footprint the United States is currently leaving on the planet. If the President continues to support the nation’s outdated and obsolete infrastructure, and we continue to depend upon coal mines, oil pipelines, and hazardous fracking operations, the US will be left on the wrong side of history as the rest of the world moves towards renewable, clean energy. (Politicians like to use the term ‘clean coal’ but, lets face it, that’s like saying ‘jumbo shrimp’ — a bit bigger, and better, sure, but still coal at the core.)
It’s time congress puts aside their moral differences on social issues like gun control and abortion and focus on something we can all agree on: we need clean air to breathe, for instance. The U.S. energy policy must reflect what the rest of the world already knows — we need to decrease carbon emissions. Plain and simple. Legislation on tax breaks only rewards corporations with lawyers clever enough to find the loopholes. Climate change isn’t something that can be negotiated, or treated like a stock option. It has to be dealt with seriously; scrutinized from every angle. No bad ideas. All suggestions welcome.
I know what you might be asking: who cares if there’s a little more carbon in the air? I hear cows, and their methane gas emissions (farts) have also contributed to global warming.
The latter happens to be true, but that doesn’t mean that man-made carbon emissions haven’t already taken their toll. Just look at the super-storms that have ravaged the U.S. over the last several years. The droughts. The floods. Scientists have linked these so-called ‘natural’ disasters to elevated levels of carbon in our atmosphere.
How can we undo the damage? Only with time and by changing our energy habits. We need new sources of affordable and efficient energy — not more nuclear power plants, or drills. We don’t need to open more coal mines. What we need is the SH-box by NRGLab.
The SH-Box produces clean electricity from patented crystal technology for pennies per watt. What’s holding NRGLab back? A lack of global government response and cooperation. It’s time for America to take a stand, and the Forward on Climate Rally might just be that motivating voice, screaming, “Get up off your butt, already!”

Really, Super Bowl -- not enough power?
Who else's wings and nachos got cold during the 34-minute delay in this year's Super Bowl?
Apparently, the dazzling talent that is Beyoncé used too much power and overloaded the circuit breakers. Did you hear that? TOO MUCH POWER!? For America's biggest sporting event of the year? Was no one prepared for the amps, the lights, the hot dog venders, and the camera guys?
We shouldn't live in a world where power capacity is ever an issue, and soon we won't have to. As soon as NRGLab introduces the SH-box to the market and launches the age of affordable energy, things like power outages and power shortages will be distant memories. NFL teams will be able to power their stadiums for a fraction of current costs. Maybe then they'll start investing more in other elements of the game, like player safety, and concussion technology. That technology could save a life. That life could go on to do great things after the game. Change the game. Change the world.
Progress is achieved through ripples. One crazy idea. One good deed. One righteous voice. One shining vision of possibility. That's all it takes to cast a stone into the still waters of revolution.
Because ultimately, we live in the future we create. So maybe it's something as simple as a singer using too much power during a half-time performance to get people wondering; wondering why something like this still happens in a world where our cell phones can unlock our cars and houses. And why are my nachos getting cold?

My answer to an angry letter
Recently, I received an angry letter from an investor. He said NRGLab could cause a massive drop in the share price of one of Australia's most well-known gas companies, which he also happened to be invested in. This investor wanted us to sell him our shares at an outrageously low price in order to protect the gas company from future loss, in case our company were to grow too quickly. His fear was that gas prices would slip significantly once we introduced our SH-boxes to the market.
Every gas company in the world is invested in the exploration, production, refining and marketing of oil products. These companies go out of their way to protect their market share and subdue competing technology. After all, no investor wants to lose their money. Really -- who does?
One way companies protect themselves is through the use of intellectual property rights. Intellectual properties yield profits, not only to the patents, but to the resource companies as well. This way, the average consumer allows these companies to develop new technology simply by purchasing food at the grocery store, music on the Internet, or leasing a car from a dealership. All the proceeds, through a network of intellectual property patents, give companies a sense of security, which allows them to expand into NEW properties, and NEW relationships.
During the recent economic crises, a drop in demand lead to significant losses in intellectual properties. Gas industry investors had been sensing this threat for some time.
Back to our angry investor, who is not longer certain of the security of his investment. Before the crises hit, people had easy access to “cheap” money: credit available at an ultra-low rate of interest. Typically, if the government wants to stimulate job creation, they lower the gold-reserve requirement for banks, who are then able to lend more money at lower interest rates to potential entrepreneurs. However, the well of cheap money ran dry after so many start-up businesses failed, and people could not repay their loans. But since intellectual property investors got accustomed to “cheap” money and the influx of spending that was feeding into their web of patent rights, they aren't ready to give it up. Voluntarily, at least.
In 2013, investors should expect serious competition. People will begin tapping all available resources in order to produce cheap energy and then distribute it, at a profit, to private markets. It will be incredibly hard for huge gas corporations to compete, in terms of price point, in the coming age of new technology. First, these large companies will resist; but sooner or later they will be forced to relinquish their monopoly privileges and the web will finally become untangled.
Similar situations will occur across other industries, including IT. Consumers will hold onto software longer. They will use predominantly free services, and will have access to a growing range of services with the ever-expanding independent app market. National governments will support private competition, while motivating their own IT-manufacturers via budget spending. One should expect national Internet segments and national payment systems to emerge within the coming years.
Let me reiterate: the modern intellectual property system only exists because of the access to “cheap money”. As soon as this resource is depleted, intellectual properties will long longer be able to be protected, or renewed. This angry investor -- his stake in the gas industry will be worthless, and fairly soon, I suspect.

Every gas company in the world is invested in the exploration, production, refining and marketing of oil products. These companies go out of their way to protect their market share and subdue competing technology. After all, no investor wants to lose their money. Really -- who does?
One way companies protect themselves is through the use of intellectual property rights. Intellectual properties yield profits, not only to the patents, but to the resource companies as well. This way, the average consumer allows these companies to develop new technology simply by purchasing food at the grocery store, music on the Internet, or leasing a car from a dealership. All the proceeds, through a network of intellectual property patents, give companies a sense of security, which allows them to expand into NEW properties, and NEW relationships.
During the recent economic crises, a drop in demand lead to significant losses in intellectual properties. Gas industry investors had been sensing this threat for some time.
Back to our angry investor, who is not longer certain of the security of his investment. Before the crises hit, people had easy access to “cheap” money: credit available at an ultra-low rate of interest. Typically, if the government wants to stimulate job creation, they lower the gold-reserve requirement for banks, who are then able to lend more money at lower interest rates to potential entrepreneurs. However, the well of cheap money ran dry after so many start-up businesses failed, and people could not repay their loans. But since intellectual property investors got accustomed to “cheap” money and the influx of spending that was feeding into their web of patent rights, they aren't ready to give it up. Voluntarily, at least.
In 2013, investors should expect serious competition. People will begin tapping all available resources in order to produce cheap energy and then distribute it, at a profit, to private markets. It will be incredibly hard for huge gas corporations to compete, in terms of price point, in the coming age of new technology. First, these large companies will resist; but sooner or later they will be forced to relinquish their monopoly privileges and the web will finally become untangled.
Similar situations will occur across other industries, including IT. Consumers will hold onto software longer. They will use predominantly free services, and will have access to a growing range of services with the ever-expanding independent app market. National governments will support private competition, while motivating their own IT-manufacturers via budget spending. One should expect national Internet segments and national payment systems to emerge within the coming years.
Let me reiterate: the modern intellectual property system only exists because of the access to “cheap money”. As soon as this resource is depleted, intellectual properties will long longer be able to be protected, or renewed. This angry investor -- his stake in the gas industry will be worthless, and fairly soon, I suspect.

The SH Box in America?
For the United States of America, it's impossible to cut budget expenses, because this will automatically create a deficit in private demand. Private demand in the US is already subsidized from the budget, and any further decrease would cause the overall GDP to decline. Increasing budget revenue is also almost impossible, since the only source of said growth is the emission of the Federal Reserve System. This phenomenon, however, would be reflected in the budget right away, which could also result in a drop in America's credit rating. So what can be done? Only one thing: find a new source of budget revenue.
Special Federal Reserve loans can be issued to so called “banks agents” (like JP Morgan, Chase) in order to finance SH-box production. Manufacturing plants for SH-box production would become a new source of revenue. The program provides for the construction of 400 factories around the world. These factories will manufacture 23 million SH-boxes in three years. The boxes will generate $31.5 trillion worth of cost-efficient energy at $0.05kW/h. The contracts alone will be worth $1.65 trillion . Banks can match this amount 5-6 times. This way, America can experience growth in both GDP and overall rating.
The SH-boxes in question are already available. However, no American business has indicated any interest since they all seem sufficed with their energy providers, and stuck in the rut of their corporate routines. Most of these companies are cutting investment payments for 2013; the next step will be laying off staff, or introducing a hiring freeze. Unemployment will keep growing.
The irony is that the solution already exists! How bad do things have to get before American businesses will consider the SH-box technology as the cost-effective solution, and the way of the future, that it truly is?

The SH Box could outlive us all
Suppose the SH Box can hold
250,000 hours of charge. That's probably too much for the needs of regular families.
But not for companies and corporations.
Creating generators from this
SH Box technology is only seven years old. Yet to date, none of the
boxes have worked past their service life. So let's stop and do the math.
An SH Box sold to a client is supposed to be good for 250,000 hours. The first
box produced was in 2011 for a company called Seahorse NRG. By the end of 2012, Seahorse had
leaned heavily on the SH Box for more than 8,000 hours, but the box was
still running great. In order to know whether an SH Box has outlived
its function, we will need to observe it for more than 20 years.
It's difficult to predict
exactly how long the SH Box will run for. But no matter how long that turns out
to be, the service life will be significantly longer than any battery,
accumulator, solid-fuel element or common fuel generator. The
incredible service life is the result of pristine production conditions,
quality components, expertly designed construction, and innovative operating
facilities. A number of samples of Seahorse NRG's SH Box allows us to perform calculated experiments
and draw theoretical conclusions regarding the box's service life of
20 years, and beyond.
The SH Box decreases the
flow of electricity over time. When Seahorse NRG states that the SH Box will serve you for over two decades, you should take
this decrease into account. The generator's power flow will slowly dwindle over
its service life. But if we switched on the SH Box and waited until it spit out
its very last watt of power, we could, in theory, be waiting for a hundred
years. If not longer.
In reality, we need to get the
specific power output numbers from the SH Box in order to conclude
how long it will last. Seahorse NRG has identified two thresholds, upon which the SH Box should be considered 'out
of service'. These two thresholds are 30% and 50% degradation of electrical
flow. Both are connected with economic efficiency. The first threshold, at 30%
degradation, is covered under warranty within the first 10 years. If the
power of your SH Box falls below this threshold, the company will exchange it
free of charge and install a brand new box. If the power of the SH Box
falls below 50% within 20 years, and achieves this decrease along the
given curve of expected power decrease (on an even basis), then the SH Box is
considered standard and will NOT be replaced.
These thresholds involve the quality of crystals inside the
SH Box. These crystals are responsible for generating electricity from natural
heat. Each SH Box will be marked “Service life up to 250,000 hours,” but in
reality, a more appropriate approximation of the 'qualitative' service
life of the box is between 5 and 8 years (with power decreases up to 2%
annually) under a continuous work load.
Seahorse NRG performs
regular tests on exploitation of the SH Boxes to evaluate their real service
life. Here are examples of two tests performed by Zeev Driori, an NRGLab technician stationed in Israel:
1. The SH Box was kept in a short-circuited condition within
3,000 thousand hours of operation. The SH Box was switched on and off every 5
seconds within these 3,000 hours. The power loss was 3% from the beginning of
the experiment.
2. The SH Box was kept in a short-circuited condition within
2,400 thousand hours of operation. When the SH Box was disconnected, it
continued to generate energy after 30 minutes of 'rest'. The power loss was 10%
from the beginning of the experiment.
So, according to the SH Box product guide, the estimated
service life of a box is 20 years. However, in theory, the crystals in the SH
Boxes could have an almost unlimited service life. Imagine the possibilities!
Imagine if SH Boxes were made available to the third-world. Imagine world peace
through the democratization of technology like this. NRGLab's SH Box is only
the first step, but it's a step in the right direction. It's up the rest of us,
all of us -- the politicians, the philanthropists, and the wealthiest 1% -- to
take the leap, and follow their lead.
